Clubs and Activities

PTSA Sponsored After-School Clubs

RCMS PTSA sponsors a number of after-school clubs for Clemente students. While these clubs are fee-based, need based scholarships are available for interested students directly from the vendors. 

Important: Parents are responsible for prompt pickup of their students after the clubs as well as for providing transportation. Parents who pick up their student early must go to the Main Office to check in. Your child will be called to the Office and meet you there. 


Fairfax Collegiate is excited to bring the following enrichment classes to all RCMS students for the winter 2019 enrichment session:


Mondays -  Advanced Debate,  Feb 4 - April 1 (no class Feb 18)

Tuesdays -  Beginning Debate, Feb 5 - March 26 

Thursdays - Python Programming, Feb 7 - March 28

All classes will be held from 3:15 - 4:45 pm.The cost for each class is $205 per student ($5 pta registration fee included). Each class is an 8-week, 90 minute session. we cannot provide refunds after the first day of class. Please register at www.fairfaxcollegiate/roberto-clemente to reserve your spot!

  •  Beginning Debate (Vendor – Fairfax Collegiate)

  • Description - This course is based on the Middle School Public Debate Program ( engage in debates which involve a wide variety of issues of public concern at the local, state, national, and global levels, as well as topics that are of direct relevance to students.

Advanced Debate 

  • Programming Club (Python) -  (Vendor - Fairfax Collegiate)
  • Debate Tournament League Club (Parent contact – Smitha Menon)
  • Day – Wednesday
  • Description –  This is a parent volunteers organized and funded club that prepares interested students and facilitates their participation in the National Capital Debate League, where these students compete against other teams from the DMV area.

    • Chess Club (Vendor – SKE) Registration for Winter 2019 is open.
    • Day- Friday
    • Description - Chess clubs split time between lesson and play. Lessons range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies, depending on the children. State and national champions have come from our programs, but most of our students are just looking to have fun! Play time is structured to pair each student against an opponent of similar skill.

    • Chess Tournament Training (Vendor – SKE)Registration for Winter 2019 is open.
    • Day - Friday
    • Description - In Tournament Training, every week students play a game against a player close to their skill level.  The game is then analyzed in a group setting with a highly-rated chess coach and peers.  It's a great next step for students who really love chess club!  Beginning tournament players learn how to take chess notation, play with a clock, and the value of game analysis. Intermediate and advanced players get serious games against tough opposition and analysis from high-level coaches. You do not have to be in chess club to be in the chess tournament training club and vice versa.

        Stock Market Club (Sparks Academy) 
    •                       Day - Thursday  
    •                 Description -  Returning and new students learn about current investment topics,                  from IPOs and valuations to mergers and stock splits! Students build a $10,000                    stock portfolio using a simulation tool with real-time market data, "learning by                    doing."
